Optical efficiency
Optical efficiency is a physical quantity used to measure the efficiency of light transmission or absorption in a particular optical system, material or device. It refers to the ability of an optical system to capture, transmit, reflect, refract or absorb light.
Optical efficiency is often expressed as a percentage and measures how much light passes through, is captured, or is absorbed relative to the total incoming light. High optical efficiency indicates that the optical system or material is able to efficiently use light and minimize its loss.
The use of optical efficiencies is found in various fields such as solar technologies (solar collectors, photovoltaic panels), optical devices (lenses, mirrors, optical filters), optical fibers and scientific research, where it is important to understand and optimize the flow of light in multiple optical systems.
